Houses and MovableType

The search for a house has come to an end. We bid, we won and we close in two weeks. It was rough going, but we made it. Things are going to be a little tight because we bought a smidge outside of our price range, but I think the prices of houses are going to rise much faster than my salary so buying early is probably the smart thing to do.

This move is also going to bring me closer to work. My commute will go from an hour and thirty minutes one way to fifteen minutes one way. I will gain about two hours of usable time each day.

The Movable Type fiasco is prompting me to switch blogging software. MT is nice, but I can't handle paying for something that I could write myself. One of the biggest pains is dealing with the comment spam, so I am tempted to turn comments off. I would like to move to WordPress, but they don't have good support for PostgreSQL which is the database that my ISP is using. I may have to break out the PHP again and contribute.

You might want to check out djeBLOG...

Mostly-backwards compatible with MT's DB schema, too - fancy that, eh?

Hey there! Sorry I put this note under a comment section that I know isn't the best, but there is no place for just general conversation submission on your blog-page. So, questions for you and I apologise that this is out of left field but, you know me.... I ask questions first and then try to sort it out ---- at least within the last few years! As with any company, Target has multiple projects going on at one time. However, we don't really have an enterprise solution for 'issue tracking'. Now, that being said we don't really need the cadillac solution for our paticular project but, I was curious to know what you might suggest - for something similar to PVCS Tracker (used in the 'old' days) - ha! Let me know!

Without spending a fortune, you can have the best. There is a small
company in Australia that makes THE BEST bug tracking solution out
there. It is $4000 for unlimited users on one server. You can find
more information about Atlassian's JIRA here:

http://atlassian.com/software/jira/

There is another company here in the States that makes the second best
bug tracking, it is called FogBugz. The name of the company is Fog
Creek.

Both of these systems hook into CVS if you are using CVS.
